"Vice President's Report, Fall 2004" --
By Mr. Peter Brune, 1st Dan
To all the Penn State students training at the IM building, I'm sure it's
been a busy semester for many of us. This often leads to missing class on a
fairly regular basis. I, for one, have been especially guilty of this over
the last few months. If you feel bad coming back to class rusty, here are a
couple tips to help overcome forgetting your martial arts when you can't
attend class:
1. Find a couple of small things that you can practice in
a small amount of time. Pick a form, a one-step, or even a single move,
and practice it during study breaks. I personally picked side kick,
for example. When you are once again able to attend class, you will
have improved.
2. Stretch regularly. This can be done in a very
similar fashion to the above point. 3. Finally, don't be ashamed of
coming back to class rusty. The people you train with are as serious about
their academic studies as you are, and understand your plight.
I hope
that you all have good luck on your finals, and a good break!
